HGTV and Sherwin-Williams’s 2020 Color of the Year Is…

Move over, Pantone! HGTV has partnered with Sherwin-Williams to launch its own 2020 Color of the Year: Romance, a warm, pale pink. This is not a screaming-loud, bubblegum shade or a powdery candy pink; understated and elegant, Romance has just a blush of apricot, reminiscent of rose gold and rose copper, which allows it to be much more versatile.

For an all-navy room, Romance on pillows, blankets, and other room accessories adds soft—not jarring—pops of color to temper the severity.

Painted on the walls of a room with teal or mint furnishings, its creamy warmth acts almost as a neutral.

Used on furnishings in an office, Romance adds a crisp, fresh accent.

Released as part of the Simply Blissful Collection, which provides a complete, ready-to-go palette of coordinating colors, Romance continues two of the hottest color trends happening right now: 1) People are stepping away from the gray (finally!) and 2) they are pivoting toward colorful but soothing hues (hooray!).

This should be no surprise as interior design has become less about what a room looks like and more about how it makes you feel, as explained by Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. And what people want to feel is relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings. Because who wants to come home and feel like they’re walking into an art gallery or formal showroom, where they can’t put their feet up?

With HGTV’s reputation for finding the newest and most exciting trends in home design, you can bet that Romance is one color you’re going to see more of in the new year!

For other colors of the year, Behr’s lush shade is inspired by nature and PPG’s fresh hue takes its cue from ceramics.
